Waikiki School Physical Education
Dear Parents,
A quality physical education program is offered to students as part of the general curriculum at Waikiki Elementary School. I have also added two sports classes to our After School Enrichment Program: Gymnastics and Racket ball / Tennis. If you are interested in signing up your child for sports, contact Shelly Hecker at our school.
It is important to me that every child feels successful each day, and that they leave the class eager to have physical education again. That is why I plan to incorporate both Spark and Mindfulness philosophies in my P.E. classes.
One of my class goals is to actively engage children in sufficient amounts of moderate to vigorous physical activity to improve and/or maintain their physical health and well being. Another goal is to encourage children to apply the skills and knowledge they acquire during class and to seek opportunities to be active outside of school as part of a healthy life style. So far it has been a big success.
SLIPPERS ARE NOT ALLOWED FOR P.E. CLASS FOR COMFORT AND SAFETY PURPOSES. There are several reasons for this.
1) They are the # one reason for ankle injuries 2) Slippers make children slip when wet.3) If they break P.E. time is over...4) In order to provide the best possible experience for your child, we must all work together as a team!
Please remind your child to dress appropriately for physical activity every day. He or she should wear running shoes with rubber soles, and shorts or loose fitting clothing. Running shoes may be kept (in a closet in our class room).
Physical activity must be done regularly to achieve health benefits. Therefore, your child’s participation is very important. If he/she is sick or unable to participate in all activities, please let me know via note or phone call prior to the scheduled class. Please state the specific nature of the ailment and your suggested restrictions.
